Recruitment Process

Our recruitment process is familiar to people who have previously applied for a role in the public service and aligns with the Code of Practice for Appointment to positions in the Civil Service and Public Service.

What to expect

Our vacancies are posted on our webpage and also on localgovernmentjobs.ie. Applications are usually made via our online application forms. These forms will ask you to set out your education, training, work experience and on some occasions will ask you to describe a scenario or experience that best demonstrates particularly competencies we might be looking for.

Each recruitment campaign will have a closing date of applications included as part of the advert.

Once the closing date has passed, an initial screening of the applications will be undertaken to check that the essential criteria for the competition is met. This will be further verified later in the process. The applications that make it through the screening will be brought forward for shortlisting which will usually be undertaken based on the competencies included on the form or on other criteria.

Candidates who have been shortlisted will be called to attend an interview. Interviews are almost always in person and take place in County Hall, Dundalk. We endeavor to provide 7 days notice before an interview and will usually provide the names of the people on the interview board to candidates in advance.

Post Interview

Appointments will be made based on vacancies arising and on the panel Order of Merit. Louth County Council will automatically advise you of the result of the interview. and you will be offered the opportunity to avail of feedback regardless of the outcome.

Successful applicants will be allowed a maximum of one week following the written offer of employment to indicate whether they will/will not take up the position.  They will be required to take up duty at the latest within six weeks of the date of offer.
